After deciding that the Red Tent preparation programme is for you you will receive your woman-led, self-study guide. This is the beginning of your journey. In your home study you will be reading, watching documentaries, completing useful tasks such as meeting local midwives and doulas, nourishing yourself and exploring how you feel about pregnancy, birth and early parenting. We have carefully prepared this programme to make sure you feel wholly ready to do the very sacred work of supporting parents and babies to achieve gentle birth and parenting. You are able to choose how long this takes and also how much you want to contribute over the minimum requirements. The self-study is undertaken from receiving the guide, taking part in the workshop and afterwards until all the tick list requirements are complete.
We have designed our course specifically to look at the childbearing year very much as a continuum – indeed even the rest of a woman’s reproductive life often creeps in. This means it’s useful for those supporting only during pregnancy, birth or postnatal. We have found over the many years working with a woman postnatally we need to know about the birth to support them well and vice versa so we try to go through the workshop and course with that in mind.
Once you’ve received your guide and begun to work on it you will be joining us for a woman-centred interactive weekend workshop of sharing, honouring, learning, exploring, planning and story-telling with your fellow doulas. This is to be completed alongside a one day breastfeeding specific workshop with our outside providers.
After completing both your workshop and self-study guide requirements with the support of your facilitator you will have a one-to-one session with her that will ensure you are fully nurtured and prepared to step out into the world to support parents as a doula.
